NOTES:
We selected hymn number 400, "When You Do This, Remember Me" for Sunday's "Theme song/Hymn. The words are from a poem written by David L. Edwards, a Disciples of Christ minister and musician. throughout the lyrics of the hymn, Edwards quotes and adapts the words of Alexander Campbell. Alexander Campbell was a 19th century church reformer whose theology and biblical study significantly shaped and founded the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Campbell realized through experience, when the church gathers around the Lord's Table, the plans God has for us and God's Kingdom become obvious and accessible to all. When we gather as community around the table our hearts understand how the poor in spirit are blessed with the Kingdom of Heaven, how those who mourn are comforted, how the meek inherit the earth. etc.
Scripture: Mathew 5:1-12

Call to Worship
Blessed are the poor in spirit, the downtrodden and
despairing,
They will rejoice in God’s reign forever.
Blessed are those who mourn, who are grieving
They will be comforted in God’s reign forever.
Blessed are the ones who seek justice and righteousness
They will find it in God’s reign forever.
Blessed are we when we love our neighbors and seek their needs
We will live in God’s reign forever.
Blessed are we all when we seek to serve others in God’s name.
Let us worship together, serving one another and serving our Mighty God. Amen.

Invocation Unison
Patient God, you sent your son into our midst to teach us
that the things, that are valued by the world are not the things on which you
would build your Kingdom. We have heard these words time after time, throughout
the centuries, and still we follow the world: valuing the bold over the meek,
the wealthy over the poor, embracing vengeance over mercy. As we give our gifts
this morning, may we affirm for ourselves and to the world what Christ taught
us – who is truly blessed in your sight. In Christ’s holy name, we pray. Amen. (Matthew
5:1-12)
