NOTES: We continue through the season of Pentecost by using scriptures from the week's daily readings in the Upper Room. Since many of our congregation use this resource, it is a place where we are already on the same page.
It's a Holy Spirit Fashion Show! The must-have patterns this season are ..... compassion-kindness-humility-meekness-patience .... and the fabric is LOVE! Today our theme scripture from the Upper Room reminds us that the same Spirit that gifts and enables us all differently also draws us together by the power of God's love. Whatever gifts we have, however we use them, it is love that defines the Spirit which gave them. So, too, love is the measure by which our work has value. When the world sees us using our gifts for God's will, what they see is loving and transformative. Three questions to consider: 1. What does it look like in Berea/Madison County when we at FCC are confidently using the gifts God gave us in love? 2. What are the interior dynamics of a Gifted community drawn together by love? 3. What do you/we need to be confident engaging our spiritual gifts in this community?
Scripture: Colossians 3:12-17
12 As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. 13 Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord[b] has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ[c] dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.[d] 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
