NOTES:Today's scripture examines how the circumstances of our daily life can present a call to ministry in the form of a significant need. It encourages us to see ourselves as equipped to respond, even to dire needs, because we always have access to compassion.
SCRIPTURE: Luke 10:25-37
25 Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus.[a] “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?” 27 He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.”
29 But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii,[b] gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him; and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

"For the Gift of Sight"
Gracious God, we thank you for the gift of sight:
for the ability to see the delicate beauty
of an intricate flower,
a cotton-summer sky,
an old woman,
a newborn baby;
For the ability to read
books,
Bibles,
directions,
dictionaries;
For the ability to see what we often miss:
A child about to lose control,
A girl trying to hide her pride in achievement.
A boy emerging from shyness,
A parent struggling to conceal weakness,
The hidden beauty in an old piece of furniture,
The meaning of a four year old's drawing,
Signs of distress in an animal's eyes,
The delicate sparkle in love-filled eyes.
Open our eyes while it is yet day.
Let us see our world as Christ saw his world,
not missing the beauty,
not turning away from the unattractive.
We pray now for those who help us to see:
For vision specialists who help improve or save our vision;
For counselors who help us put life in perspective;
For artists who see meaning and beauty in common materials;
For all who inspire us and help us to see something good
and beautiful in the most unlikely persons.
For ourselves, O Lord, we ask for unclouded vision:
For the ability to see members of our family as they are at this moment,
and to love them without judgement;
For the good sense not to waste the gift of sight on visual distractions;
For the courage to focus on the immediate needs you call us to see
and address;
For the determination to take a long, loving look at Jesus Christ,
and see in him what we may become.
This we pray, through Jesus Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Come, now is the time to worship.
Come, now is the time to give your heart.
Come, jsut as you are to worship.
Come, just as you are before your God.
One day every tongue will confess you are God.
One day every knee will bow.
Still the greatest treasure remains for those
Who gladly choose you now.
Come, now is the time to worship.
Come, now is the time to give your heart.
Come, just as you are to worship.

God, the refuge and help of all your children,
we praise you for all you have given us,

For all your blessings we bless you.
May we live as in your presence,
