THEME:Breathe in Joy, Laughter, Love and Grace

NOTES: On this second Sunday of the Easter season, we continue to celebrate the resurrection, taking a deep breath and drawing this good news all the way into our hearts. Christ is risen and death has lost its fear inducing grip on us. New life lies on either side of the grave. Forgiveness and grace transform this life. And love that endures through death holds us when we pass beyond this life. So we can, truly, take a deep breath...and relax. As we do, we can relax the grip we hold on our deepest concerns and our greatest hopes. We can let go and live.

Revs. Mark and Lisa and Emilee Givens are traveling. Rev. Loretta Reynolds will be preaching. Allison Harrison will be song leading.  Mandy Williams will present the Children's Sermon. Mark Workman will be liturgist and Kyle Sowers will do the Morning Prayer in first service. Liturgist TBN and Rudy Rudolph on the Morning Prayer in second service.

Hard copies of this service as you see it below will be available on the coat tree/chair outside Susan's office beginning Wednesday evening.

Prelude

We Gather in The Light of Christ

Lighting the Christ Candles         Mark Workman
Invite 1-2 children to come forward to light the candles as we share the responsive reading.

Leader:  In the beginning, God said,
People: 'Let there be light' and there was light!
Leader: We light these candles today,
People: Because God is with us in this time and in this place!

Hymn of Praise:# 224 Christ Arose!  (all verses)                         Allison Harrison

Call to Worship         Mark Workman
Leader: Joy is loose,
People: In the wiggles of the children,

Leader: The whispers of the youth,

People: The smiles of the adults.

Leader: We praise God for this glorious day,

People: Let the praise break forth in the most unlikely places and in silly ways.
Leader: Joy and praise fills our hearts and in our songs

People: Let the laughter be deep as we worship God today, for we are God's people.

Invocation (UNISON)                Mark Workman
Grant us, God,
the grace to see ourselves as others see us -
creatures of your making: wholly loved.
In the busyness of this week,
awaken us to your presence
in the smiles and glances of those we meet.
Shape our hearts to delight in the gifts of
each and every day. Amen.

Praying Together     (Sample Prayer)     Kyle Sowers

Holy One, we celebrate
that where people are gathered together in love:
You are present
and good things happen and life is full.
We celebrate
that we are immersed in your mystery
our lives are more than they seem:
We belong to each other
and to a universe of great creative energies,
whose source and destiny is you, our God.
We celebrate
that your spirit beat in the heart of Jesus of Nazareth:
The good news of your healing, embracing and liberating love
was heard by the broken, the lonely
and all bound by life’s sorrows and struggles.
We celebrate
that the spirit of peace and hope is present
with us and though us:
In our struggle to love
we incarnate your holy presence in our world.
And so, aware of the hurts and longings all of us carry,
the awe and wonder that is around us,
and the gifts of faith and this community of faith:
We pause and we become ever aware
of the sacredness of our lives.
In that awareness may we act and speak and live.
May it be so…

We Offer Our Hearts to God

Call to Offering       (SAMPLE)                                       Liturgist
The offering we share supports the ministries and life of Christ’s church.
With the women in the garden
we catch our breath,
wipe our tears,
and try to articulate our
experience of God.

What words can describe
shadows fleeing from the tomb?
How can we tell of the morning
the world turned upside-down?
No mortal words will do.

Still, we must spread the news:
Christ is risen!

Our knees are weak from running;
our voices tremble
on the edge of fearful joy.
Our eyes have seen the glory
of the Lord loosed upon the world!

May every breath we take,
every moment of our time,
every gift we bring to this table,
witness to the truth
of Christ’s resurrection.
