NOTES: We continue in our preparations for envisioning the role music plays and will play in our life together with another Psalm. Psalm 25 is both a prayer and a song. As a song, the rhythm and lyrics have been adapted over generations into classical songs and camp songs.
As a prayer it is a petition, asking God for help. With the Psalm, we remember who we belong to and lift up ourselves and the music we make together, entrusting them to God, giver of breath and sound and melody. With the Psalm, we also lift our worries and frustrations and doubts, trusting God to reveal a way through it all. And with the Psalm, we find our heartsongs in God's steadfast love.
Scripture:Psalm 25:1-10
1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
do not let me be put to shame;
do not let my enemies exult over me.
3 Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame;
let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
do not let me be put to shame;
do not let my enemies exult over me.
3 Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame;
let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.
4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all day long.
teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all day long.
6 Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,
for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!
for they have been from of old.
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,
for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!
8 Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
9 He leads the humble in what is right,
and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
9 He leads the humble in what is right,
and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.

Invocation
O God, we trust totally in You as we trust in no other. You are the creator of all things, and our life depends on You moment by moment. You give us breath and we respond with songs of praise and hymns of adoration. You give us truth and we try to model Your ways. You give us eternal life, and we share the gospel of Jesus Christ with all who will listen. You fill us with Your Holy Spirit, and we love others as You have loved us. You call us Your friends, and we seek to be friends with the friendless. In all things we completely depend upon You as we pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
